This suite of books will change that. Serra keeps a large library of notebooks from throughout his career in his studio, hundreds in total. Contained within them are delicate sketches of his travels, of landscapes, architecture and of other ideas, some of which the artist developed into mature sculptures and drawings. Serra has personally selected five of these precious notebooks, which are reproduced here in facsimile.
La fama di Richard Serra come uno dei più grandi scultori del nostro tempo è ben nota, ma il ruolo degli schizzi nella sua pratica lavorativa non è altrettanto noto. Serra conserva nel suo studio centinaia di quaderni realizzati nel corso della sua carriera. Al loro interno i delicati schizzi dei suoi viaggi, dei paesaggi, dell'architettura e di altre idee, alcune sviluppate dopo in sculture e disegni. Serra ha selezionato personalmente cinque di questi preziosi taccuini, che sono riprodotti qui in fac-simile.
