Giuseppe Capogrossi, after graduating in Law at the Sapienza University of Rome, studied painting with Felice Carena in 1923-24. In 1930 he took part in the Venice Biennale for the first time and from then on he participated in numerous other exhibitions at the same Biennale, at the Mostre Sindacali Romane and at the Triennale di Milano. In 1932, with Corrado Cagli, Emanuele Cavalli and Eloisa Michelucci, he exhibited some of his works at the Galleria Roma and the following year at the Galleria il Milione in Milan and at the Galleria Jacques Bojean in Paris. Exhibitions that were noted and reviewed by the critic Waldemar George who coined the term "Ecole de Rome" (Roman School) for these artists. In 1939, 1940 and 1942 he took part in the Bergamo Prize. Among the numerous post-war exhibitions, we remember those at the Galleria Il Cortile, Rome (1947); Galleria Il Secolo, Rome (1950); various participations in Documenta in Kassel and the Biennial of Sao Paulo in Brazil; personal exhibitions at the Galleria del Cavallino, Venice (1964 and 1966) and at the Galleria del Naviglio, Milan (1965).
