Pinot Gallizio, who graduated as a pharmacist in 1924, participated in the Second World War as a pharmacist officer, after 8 September he took part in the Resistance, and in the post-war period he carried out political activities as a town councillor in Alba elected on the Communist Party list. His artistic activity began when, at the age of 50, in 1957 in Cosio di Arroscia he participated, together with Guy Debord, Asger Jorn Walter Olmo Michèle Bernstein, Constant, Piero Simondo, Elena Verrone and Rulph Rumney, in the founding of theSituationist International, which was born from the fusion of the Lettrist Movement and the International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus. His main exhibitions were held in the 1960s, including a solo show at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the exhibition Dalla natura all'arte at Palazzo Grassi in Venice, and his participation in the Venice Biennale (1964) at the invitation of Maurizio Calvesi. His attempt to go beyond informal painting with his Pittura industriale, with which he intended to decree the end of modern art as Value, through his proposals to sell his canvases 'by the metre'.
