He was trained in the visual arts, but already during the Second World War, in 1942 he founded the Independent Theatre in Krakow and in 1955 his historical and famous group Cricot 2. Throughout his life, Tadeusz Kantor will interpret his artistic career in a disruptive and avant-garde manner, highlighting each step by means of a poetic and artistic manifesto, right up to the last The Theatre of Death.
Since the 1970s, from the first performance belonging to the Theatre of Death cycle, The Dead Class, his creations have appeared on stages all over the world, produced and hosted by the most important theatre festivals and institutions.
Kantor died in 1990 in Krakow, on 8 December, after one of the rehearsals of his last play, which was entitled 'Today is my birthday'.
