From Alec Soth: "I went to New Oreleans for Mardi Gras, but unable to handle all the joy of the people around, I decided to spend it alone in my hotel room watching TV. I left the room for the midnight police raid on Bourbon Street, the official end of Mardi Gras, to photograph the aftermath. Ten years ago I photographed Adelyn the morning after Mardi Gras: 'Just cigarette ashes,' she told me. Adelyn agreed to meet me again in front of St. Louis Cathedral. On my way back to the hotel, I stopped at the casino, bumping into a woman I had photographed just before outside the cathedral. She agreed to come to my hotel room to be photographed."
