1976 - A long and particularly eventful period began to dawn for Ghirri, both with regard to the study and realisation of new works and to the development of his exhibition activity. His interest in the theme of the landscape gradually grew: the interpretation of places belonging to a lesser-known Italy, off the tracks of conventional tourism, seemed to correspond with the search for an identity, both individual and collective. What he did between 1970 and 1975, photographing the margins of ancient cities, or mainly villages without historical and geographical dignity, was a sort of recomposition of family albums of my and our exteriors. Thus, the Vedute and Italia ailati series took shape this year, to which he dedicated a solo exhibition at the Fotogalerie in the Forum Stadtpark in Graz, in collaboration with the Il Diaframma gallery in Milan.
First solo exhibition in Germany. One of the first catalogues Ghirri produced in the 1970s.
