"In these photographs the backdrop is no longer placed in relation to the surrounding reality but enters directly into dialogue with the physical world, by means of shadows, signs of time, superimposition of objects, or minimal events that need a long reading to be discovered [...] Photography thus becomes a language that operates by instantaneous accumulation on the meaning of the change of sense when the world of signs integrates with the physical world and at the same time further on a third vision. In these mental perspective planes, I believe the meaning I give to photography must be found: the superimposition of a pre-existing image with the present moment; for an ultimate image that thus becomes another image" (Luigi Ghirri, from a text of 1979).
