The book was published in its first complete edition by Edizioni Futuriste di Poesia in 1910. The novel was seized in early April and put on trial for indecency; after an initial acquittal in October of the same year, the novel was finally condemned on appeal: Marinetti was sentenced to two months in prison, which however resulted in a fine and a ban on circulating the work. The next edition appeared in purged form for Sonzogno in 1920.
