An artist's book in which Baldessari attempts to realise a simple but arbitrary goal, following the rules in a game-like manner. The 36 attempts refer to exposures on a roll of 35 mm film. The resulting images are a documentation of Baldessari's performance, but also the boundary towards abstract images that anticipate later works, in which the artist places brightly coloured circles on photographic images of faces to obscure the identity of the subjects.
